netta barzilai eurovision israel winner

How Netta Barzilai and the Israeli governement politicized their victory in the Eurovision Song Contest 2018

  • How Netta politicized her victory at the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 for Israel,as Israel mobilised all the instruments to spread its propaganda through her victory!
Freshly-crowned Eurovision queen Netta Barzilai struck fire with her victory speech, as she invited viewers to see next year’s song contest in the occupied Jerusalem, not the internationally-recognized Israeli capital Tel Aviv. I believe that Barzilai betrayed the message of acceptance and diversity by ending on a statement in tune with Israeli propaganda.

The 25-year-old was chosen to represent Israel in the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 after she won the nation’s selection programme HaKokhav HaBa L’Eurovizion (The Next Star For Eurovision).

Barzilai, who was a favorite to win the contest, clinched first place with her song “Toy,” riding the wave of female empowerment. But it was not only the catchy tune that made Twitter erupt after the show but also the highly polarizing statement Netta made on stage after being proclaimed as the winner.

“Thank you so much for choosing difference, thank you so much for accepting differences between us… I love my country, next time in Jerusalem!” the singer said.

It is just a coincidence that Israel wanted so much to win this Eurovision song contest this year at the same time with the opening of the US embassy in Jerusalem? –When Israel realized that Netta has a chance to win they started sponsored her song through Facebook, Twitter and in some applications as Grindr (used for gay people meetings).

Israeli leaders, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu view the victory of Barzilai’s heavily promoted entry in this year’s Eurovision as a major coup for their international propaganda.

Furthermore, Barzilai, with her Asian-themed show in red and yellow and her dancers doing funky chicken moves, was unrepentant. When the semi final’s performance ended, Israeli fans held up flags, and Barzilai yelled the ultimate Israeli endearment, “Kapara aleichem!”

“Kapara” literally means “atonement,” and is the root behind the name of the Jewish ritual of using a chicken (or its monetary value) on the morning before the Day of Atonement to atone for your sins. People “swing” the chicken in circles around their head while saying a symbolic phrase asking God to transfer all their sins committed over the past year to the chicken, which is then ritually slaughtered and donated to charity.

“I’m happy people chose something different. It’s refreshing,” she said. “I believe authenticity (shows) through.”

But this reaction against Foureira can also be explained in part by her background when we read her story  on Times of Israel. Additionally, when it comes to  talk about Netta’s authenticity, many have accused the singer of cultural appropriation after pointing out the nods to Japanese culture in her performance, including her costume of a traditional kimono dress, hair in two buns, and a wall background of maneki-neko waving cat figurines.

The fame and popularity that followed her TV success led to her being selected to sing at a state ceremony marking the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Jewish state, where she brought the house down.

She said it was a form of validation after a childhood marked by teasing over her body, the repeated failure of diets and bouts of bulimia.

She also experienced upheaval in her surroundings.

Born in Hod Hasharon, north of Tel Aviv, she moved with her family at a very young age to Nigeria, where her father was employed by an Israeli construction company.

For four years she lived in West Africa before returning to her homeland, where she had to readjust to life.

She understood quickly that singing was a way for her to overcome her traumas.

Netta has also served as a singer for the Israeli navy before going on to work as the in-house entertainment at the Bar Giora club for three years.

At the same time the Israeli- Palestinian conflict is still very alive unfortunately. On Monday the 14th of May, the Palestinian ordeal was on shocking display Monday as Israeli snipers once again opened fire on civilians massed along the boundaries of the besieged Gaza Strip for what has been billed as the climax of the Great March of Return. Monday’s rallies were timed to mark the annual commemoration of the Nakba, the 1948 ethnic cleansing of Palestinians.

Israeli forces have killed at least 55 Palestinians and injured more than 1,200  during protests on the Gaza side of the border with Israel.  It marks the deadliest day in Gaza since the 2014 war. In a video message played at the US embassy opening ceremony, Donald Trump said: ‘The United States remains fully committed to facilitating a lasting peace agreement’

  • The messages for the boycotting of next year’s eurovision in Jerusalem continue to increase.

According to Electronic Intifada, the activist group Boycott From Within is urging viewers to take action against Israel’s use of the contest to further its propaganda, calling its campaign “Zero Points to Israel.”

They state that Barzilai “served in the Israeli navy in 2014” and “sang ‘My Sailor is My Angel’ to navy members, who took part later that year in the Operation Protective Edge massacre in Gaza.”

The victims of that massacre included the four Baker boys who were killed by shells fired by the Israeli navy as they played on a Gaza City beach.

Israel’s navy continues to enforce the maritime blockade of Gaza, often attacking, injuring and killing Gaza fishers.

The lord mayor of Dublin has called for Ireland to boycott next year’s Eurovision song contest in solidarity with the Palestinian people.

“The horrific ordeal of the Palestinian people needs to be highlighted,” Mícheál Mac Donncha stated. “There needs to be solidarity just as there was with the people of South Africa with the apartheid regime.”

“Israel wins Eurovision so let’s make BDS more successful than ever in 2019,” Lynn Boylan, a member of the European Parliament and a colleague of Mac Donnacha in the Sinn Féin party tweeted.

“The Israeli song is widely promoted on the net, in a massive propaganda campaign very generously funded by the Israeli government,” Boycott from Within states.  Despite criticism Netta has proved a hit with the public with TOY receiving over 25 million views on YouTube ahead of the show.

However, i believe that the song worth its first place this year and i hope  that she starts an international career now ! I supported Israel and Cyprus as the best songs for this year because i believe that Eurovision should stay away from politics.

  • The song.

“The noises are supposed to imitate the voices of a coward — a ‘chicken’. Someone who doesn’t act the way he/she feels and treats you like a toy,” she told Wiwibloggs .

There are also a few Hebrew words.

Ani Lo Buba – “I’m not a puppet”, is a key line, and ‘stefa’ is the slang word for cash.

‘Baka’ is Japanese for stupid.

Full lyrics

Look at me, I’m a beautiful creature
I don’t care about your “modern-time preachers”
Welcome boys, too much noise, I will teach you
Pam pam pa hoo, Turram pam pa hoo

Hey, I think you forgot how to play
My teddy bear’s running away
The Barbie got something to say: Hey! Hey! Hey!
Hey! My “Simon says” leave me alone
I’m taking my Pikachu home
You’re stupid just like your smart phone

Wonder woman, don’t you ever forget
You’re divine and he’s about to regret
His baka-bakum, bak-bak bakumbai…

’m not your toy
You stupid boy
I’ll take you down
I’ll make you watch me
Dancing with my dolls
On the MadaBaka Beat
Not your toy!

A-A-A-Ani Lo buba!
Don’t you go and play with me boy!
A-A-A-Ani Lo buba!
Don’t you go and play… Shake!
Kulului, Kulului, Ah, wedding bells ringing
Kulului, Kulului, Ah, money man bling-bling
I don’t care about your ‘stefa’, baby
Pam pam pa hoo, Turram pam pa hoo

Wonder woman, don’t you ever forget
You’re divine and he’s about to regret
His baka-bakum…bak-bak bakumbai…

I’m not your toy
You stupid boy
I’ll take you down
I’ll make you watch me
Dancing with my dolls
On the MadaBaka Beat
Not your toy!

  1. I enjoyed your previous post “Goodnight Kemal”, thanks for sharing.

No doubt the devious oligarchs, technocrats, social engineers, and their obedient agents will not stop their global destructive behaviour and activities.

Worldwide, we see what is happening and the Eurovision/LGBTQ is part of the global agenda.
Perhaps truth & freedom seekers, are here on earth to witness the end…

    1. Thank you RonMamita for your comment. I really appreciate this comment about my post. Without being aware of we took part as Europeans in the israeli propaganda. This is sad.

      1. Indeed, the IMS global control matrix is a very sad state of affairs for us all.
Many fail to note the important distinction between “Freedom”, and “Do what thou wilt” (destructive free-will ego of the ruling class).

Whereas, freedom is our salvation, while free-will is our destruction.

  2. I am simply appalled by the actions of Israel yesterday, both the excessive aggression, and Netanyahu’s “wonderful day,” speech as people were being slaughtered. Trump is pushing us toward WWIII.

    1. Thank you for your comment Cindy. I’m irritated as we didn’t hear any arab country protesting : Egypt, Jordan , Saudi Arabia, which are neighbours with Palestine. How can the United States and Russia and other powers come to help this nation when the other arab countries just see their interests? But Israel with its strategy won all its goals since its creation. Arabs should change their strategy!

  3. Eurovision is becoming as impopular as Israel and their politic of steals, opression and dayly murders…
The fat donkey they send is an example of musical terrorism dressed like a mad clown and tanned with the blood of their innocents victims…
