  • Kurdish forces get back Kobani’s industrial zone from ISIS

According to In a series of attacks on ISIS positions in Kobani on Friday (2nd of January) Kurdish forces managed to retake the city’s industrial zone from the militants and build a defense line.

YPG (Peoples Protection Units) stated that, fighters attacked the zone that lies in the northern part of the town and expel the militants who had been positioned there for three months.  21 ISIS militants were killed in the clashes.

Kurdish fighters battling the ISIL terrorists in Syria’s northern town of Kobani have managed to kill a senior commander of the Takfiri group.

On Friday, the Kurdish forces engaged in fierce battle with ISIL in Kobani, also known as Ain al-Arab in Arabic.

Osman al-Nazeh of Saudi origin was killed along with a number of ISIL militants in the fight.

  • ISIS seizes dozens of northern Iraq residents and destroys Shiite religious shrines in Iraq

The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) militant group seized dozens (approximately 170 people) of men from two villages in northern Iraq on Friday (Kirkuk province),as reported while searching for people who burned its flag, officials and residents said.

At the same time, Abbas Saeedi, the secretary general in charge of state-run Shiite shrines, said the group reduced to ruins a total of 17 shrines, four of which were in Mosul, with the others located in Diyala, Kirkuk and Saladin provinces.

  • ISIS publishes ‘interview’ with captured Jordan pilot

ISIS published -as what it says is- an interview with a Jordanian pilot it captured after his plane crashed in Syria last week.

In the comments attributed to the pilot, he says his plane was hit by a heat-seeking missile, endorsing the jihadist group’s version of events, which has been rejected by both Jordan and the United States.

  • New massive airstrikes against ISIS

The United States and its allies conducted 29 air strikes against the Islamic State (IS) group in Syria and Iraq on December 31, according to a Joint Task Force Statement on January 1. Seventeen strikes in Syria targeted IS positions near Raqqa, Deir al-Zor, and Kobani, while 12 strikes in Iraq targeted positions around Mosul, Fallujah, and Sinjar.

  • New Zealander Jihadi militant shares his #position in #Syria on Twitter

Tweets sent by New Zealander Mark Taylor, believed to be fighting with the Islamic State, appear to include location data accurate enough to track his travel and place him in a house in central Syria.
